Packaging: A light colored box which would fit into the Sports or Hunting section of any Mega Store. The ERTL Sportsmen box has a rustic look, like something you would find stocked near the fishing lures. There are six figures in the ERTL Sportsmen Series One. Jimmy Houston, Clark Wendlandt, and Bill Jordan are the subject of three of the six Sportsmen. The other three are generic, such as the Longneck Pheasant Hunter which is pictured above.
Headsculpt: The headsculpt of the Longneck Pheasant Hunter looks like Detective Nick Knight (Geraint Wyn-Davies) from the short-lived T.V. Series "FOREVER KNIGHT." Check the photos.
Articulation: The body is the Medicom Cro-Magnon body style. This body is a hybrid of Dragon and Medicom. The upper torso is the same as a typical Dragon figure, with all of the super-articulation. The legs are like Medicom, which avoids the double-knee joint by making the thigh hollow so that the lower-leg can be bent into the thigh. See my Medicom Cro-Magnon Matt Review (#1) for photos of the legs. Taking the feet out of the boots is tough, as the feet come off inside the boots.
Outfit: A really colorful Orange Hunting Vest, orange cap, and a tan shirt with a tan & blue pair of jeans. The orange vest looks outstanding for any Hunter or Fisherman. The cap is cloth, and the bill of the cap either folds down over the face or you have to fold it up. A rubber cap would have been better. The rest of the outfit is OK. No snaps, all velcro. The orange hunting vest has some small pockets which would be very hard to use for any kind of gear.
Gear: Shotgun, canvas shotgun case, nice hunting boots. The shotgun looks like the kind of one-shot shotgun that is used for hunting birds. It is detailed, but not to the degree that Dragon or 21st Century have accustomed collectors. Also included is a cardboard box of shotgun shells, a Thermos, and a carrying box for ammo. The box has a working latch, and is useful for any diorama. The Thermos is generic looking.
Price: These are available online from various retailers at about $19.99 each plus postage. The case of all six used to sell for $100.00 plus $12.00 Postage. BIG LOTS has recently had some of the ERTL Sportsmen, usually the female from Series II.
Overall: A lot of very interesting 1:6 scale items are included with each Sportsman. The outfits, including the vests and boots are very unique and very well tailored. The Longneck Pheasant Hunter is the Sportsman who brings the least amount of gear. However, it would be the same price or less than the Final Fantasy, The Matrix, Planet of The Apes, or other action figure sets which are devoid of quality clothing or gear. For the price, the Longneck Pheasant Hunter is good. The other Sportsmen are even better.
