On a hill overlooking a Welsh mining town Professor Mather has invented a machine which will speed up the process of evolution. A young miner volunteers to be the first human subject, and immediately he has more intelligence and understanding, and his body evolves as well. His forehead is higher, his eyes brighter and his fingers, long and sensitive, now have three joints instead of two. And the stub of a sixth finger begins to grow. The evolution continues until he represents man of one million years in the future -- he is translucent and lives by photosynthesis.
Art Design: The box cover art is kind of dark and captures that early 1960s Outer Limits look perfectly. The inside flap has a plot synopsis and cast information regarding "The Sixth Sense" episode, which starred David McCallum (later to co-star on MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.)
The Headsculpt and Figure: Look at that face (right photo)! It looks a little bit like Robin Williams face! As a fan of Dr. Evil, and all aliens with big heads and/or exposed brains, I just had to get Gwyllm. Even in the sterile white lab outfit, Gwyllm looks like a menacing and nasty critter. However, the head's mold left a very clear mold-mark all along and around the head. You can see the mark in the photo below right. For $40., you would think Sideshow could shave off mold-marks on the head of a creature with a gigantic bald head. On the positive note, if you look at the figure "head-on" you can't see the mold-marks! The body is a standard Sideshow ultra articulated version. Gwyllm has big long hands with six fingers, and he should be an excellent choice for a creepy photo-story!
The Outfit and Gear: Gwyllm is dressed in a white cloth lab outfit similar to a 1960s Hospital Attendant. Gwyllm also has a couple of books included, and an action figure stand.
Overall: As a creature, Gwyllm is unique and creepy. The book accessories are boring, and for the $40.00 MSRP, this figure is a bit lacking.
Market: Sideshow Toys had these figures on clearance at $20.00 each, but they are out of production now. They may be available on e-bay and from various online dealers.
